COURTING CATE by Leslie Gould

Ship's Log  02.12.2013

Ahoy Mateys! Whether ye be into Amish fiction or not, I know that ye will be enjoyin' this book. It be not like yer average Amish tale.

Courting Cate by Leslie Gould

Courting Cate, Courtships of Lancaster County Series #1

Description:

#1 Bestselling Author Leslie Gould Delivers a New Amish Romance Series

When Amish farmer Pete Treger moves to Paradise Township, Pennsylvania, seeking a better life, he meets sisters Cate and Betsy Miller. Both are beautiful, but older sister Cate is known more for her sharp tongue and fiery temper than her striking appearance. Betsy, on the other hand, is sweet and flirty--and seems to have attracted most of the bachelors in Lancaster County.

However, the sisters' wealthy father has made one hard and fast rule: elder sister must marry first, before the younger can even start courting. Unfortunately for poor Betsy, and for the men who want to court her, her older sister, Cate, doesn't have any suitors--until Pete comes to town, that is.

Though he finds both sisters attractive, something about Cate's feisty demeanor appeals to him. Soon the other bachelors in the district convince Pete to court Cate. She hardly seems receptive to his overtures, though. Instead, she's immediately suspicious of his interest.

My review:

This is the first book in The Courtships of Lancaster County series and just let me say that I can't wait for Book 2.
Leslie Gould has taken a classic tale and made it all her own. I have seen/read different versions of The Taming of the Shrew, but to experience it in Amish style was wonderful. This is a brilliant adaptation that keeps you guessing throughout the book. I found myself smiling and laughing while I read Cate and Pete's story. Yes, there were some tears, too. I applaud Leslie for a job well done. I'm not much of an Amish fiction reader, but I will definitely be reading more of Leslie's books.

I won my copy of Courting Cate and I wish to thank Leslie for my copy.

    1. Johnette, Courting Cate is the first book I've read by Leslie Gould. I was a bit unsure at first, because I really don't read Amish fiction. When I heard that it was based on The Taming of the Shrew, I thought it might be worth trying. It is really good with a lot of humor and warmth.
Thanks for stopping by, Matey... See ye on the ship.

  4. I think I would enjoy Courting Cate. I like to read Amish fiction, as it shows how we could live, if we weren't so 'busy' using all those things that supposedly make our lives easier....lol
    Thanks for sharing :)
