CHAPPY DEBBIE'S WEEK-IN-REVIEW

Ship's Log 01.30.2016

What I spied from the deck of me ship
                    January 24th-January 29th

Ahoy Mateys! Welcome aboard, find yerself a nice spot on the deck and enjoy.

                               BOOKS:

This past week I spied MaryLu Tyndall's newest release Charity's Cross. You can pre-order the ebook at a great price. On Monday, the price goes up....or purchase the paperback, which is available now. This has to be my favorite book of MaryLu's so far. I adore all of her books, but for some reason this one captured me. I've read it twice already and intend to read it again once I get my hands on the paperback.

If you are a long-time fan of MaryLu's books, you will recognize a lot of the characters. But, this is a stand-alone book, so if it's the first book you've read by her, no worries. And I guarantee that once you read this book, you will want to seek out more of MaryLu's books.
I created a few memes for MaryLu to help promote Charity's Cross. I will be sharing them over the next few weeks on Facebook and Twitter. Here are a couple that I've shared already:

 Description....

Suspected of killing her husband, Charity Westcott flees on the first ship out of Portsmouth, England heading for the colonies. Loathing all men after her abusive marriage, she hopes to reunite with her family in Charles Towne, but the ship’s destination is Nassau. When she spots her husband’s brother, who is intent on seeing her hang, boarding her ship, she jumps overboard.

Elias Dutton, missionary and son of the famous pirate, Rowan Dutton, must get to Barbados as soon as possible. His sister is in danger, and his parents have charged him with her safety. He cannot let them down—again. But after rescuing a madcap woman from the bay, he now finds himself tricked into masquerading as her husband so they both can procure passage to Barbados.
Pirates, storms, shipwreck and betrayal threaten to delay the couple in their journey even as sparks fly between them. With her brother-in-law in fast pursuit, the last thing Charity wants is help from a man, especially a religious one, but she has no choice. After Elias’ heart was broken by a sordid woman who nearly ruined his life, he seeks a godly woman pure as the virgin sands of the Caribbean. He believes he has found such a woman in Charity. Until he discovers she is a murderer and is now faced with two choices: letting her go or turning her in to the authorities.

My Review:

Classic MaryLu!

I am so in love with MaryLu Tyndall's books, especially her pirate series, and I've yet to be disappointed by her writing. She has taken me on adventure after adventure, causing me to sigh, cry, grimace and Praise God.
I love it when books touch my soul....books that take me back to a time, place and characters that I have loved and missed. If you have read MaryLu's books, namely her pirate series, this is going to please you to no end. If you are a first time reader of her books, once you read Charity's Cross, you will want to grab MaryLu's Charles Towne Belles and Legacy of the King's Pirates series, to read about all of the adventures that you have missed out on.
Charity's Cross is about the 4th sister, Charity, from the Charles Towne Belles series....she's rarely mentioned, but mentioned enough to want to know her story. And FINALLY, MaryLu has penned Charity's story. And let me tell you.....NO, I won't go into any details, for I truly hate spoilers in reviews. I will say, however, that this story tells of God's forgiveness and reminds us that we need to always put God's will ahead of our own. Ignoring His voice can have some serious repercussions in our lives....as Charity drastically discovers. Do you ever find yourself blaming someone else or yourself for bad things that happen in your life? Do you blame God? While enjoying this wonderful tale, you will be reminded of the truth that no matter where you find yourself in life, no matter how desperate things seem....God will use your suffering for good. It will all work out in the end.....just trust in Him.
Along with a wonderful message of trust, Charity's Cross will provide...Adventure on the high seas! Danger! Love! Oh, and PIRATES!
I highly recommend this book, especially to those who have waited.....and waited.....for Charity's story to be told.
Bravo, once again, MaryLu! Your pirate series are where you truly shine and Charity's Cross is a Classic MaryLu Tyndall story. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!

This week I want to share about a great pizza place....

                           Westside Pizza

Whenever we have the urge to eat pizza, we always order from this company. They are pleasant to deal with and the pizza is yummy. We usually order online for take out. This past week we ordered two pizzas and after waiting for an hour for delivery, the pizza man arrived with a third pizza as an apology for being late! This company only has stores in 3 states here on the West Coast. Click on the name above to find a location near you.

  1. Aye, Aye, wonderful post, Debbie - thanks!!

So hard to pick a fave book - there are so many excellent books I've enjoyed, I'll just say that MaryLu, Julie Lessman, and Laura Frantz are 3 of my fave authors - I absolutely love everything they write. As with you, I was drawn to "Charity's Cross" - in fact, it may be my fave of all MaryLu's books. I'll be writing a review on it today. I love the adventure, romance, and realistic characters in each of her books, and so appreciate the faith in each one. I loved the lesson in forgiveness in "Charity's Cross" - which is the same lesson in Julie Lessman's latest novel "Isle of Hope".

I love the memes you create for MaryLu's books, and am really looking forward to the release party. I receive Michelle's daily posts, she is so cute, and quite a character.

    Thanks for the giveaway opportunities!!

How can anyone pick just one favorite book? Argghh!
I'll go with a classic, Jane Eyre. Why? Because Jane says no to her emotions and stands up for what's right.

  3. Hmm, my favorite book? That's a hard one, because I like so many, so I don't really have an overall favorite. Is it okay if I choose favorite book read in 2016 so far? That would be "Until the Dawn" by Elizabeth Camden. It was such an interesting story, with a good mystery, spiritual message, and romance. It's a fantastic read and one to check out.

  4. I loved Charity's Cross. I liked the fact that Charity's story was told. We would catch a word here and there in MaryLu's books and I am sure that her readers are going to love this story and the message that is throughout .
What is my all time best and reread book. I have so any but this one book that us so old that the pages are turning yellow is written by James Alexander Thom. It is --Follow the River-- based on the life of Mary Ingles. A woman and children captured when Indians raided their small village.
The courage and fortitude that this woman showed helped her to treated fairly. She left her new born child and escaped with another woman and followed that long River back to her home. That River was the Ohio River which she followed from the farthest point north to Virginia. It is a fantastic book.
But MaryLu is in great company on my list of authors which include Lori Bento, Ronie Kendig for starters .

Best novel I've ever read?! Oh, boy... Guess it would have to be Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. But my favorite modern novels would be Ray BLackston's trilogy - Flabbergasted, A Delirious Summer, and Lost in Rooville.

  12. AYE AYE! =D saw a preview for that movie and thought it looked good! sign me up! How to pick a favorite novel? That is hard. I love MaryLu Tyndall's Legacy Of The Kings Pirates series. Romance and adventure amidst the high seas and salty air. Greedy pirates and bloodthirsty cutthroats, all while staying tasteful and giving thoughtful Scriptural guidance. What's not to love? =) Becoming Lady Lockwood by Jennifer Moore is another favorite. It's also a clean Christian romance at sea, though it's set during the Napoleonic wars. Plus Melanie Dickerson's modern Fairytale renderings of classic tales. I love the Robin Hood and Swan Lake melding of The Huntress of Thornbeck Forest. It's so thoughtful and unique. Two of my favorite tales/legends put together. Awesomeness. Her Cinderella remake The Captive Maiden is another top fave. Hope I haven't overwhelmed you with all my favorites. I kinda got a library full of them! =)

  15. Aye Aye , well seeing I have only read The Redemption I would have to say it's my favorite, but now that I will be on the road again I will will have more time to read again. It's nice that these books makes me want to read again. I'm not your normal reader it takes me a long time to read anything but it's nice that the books keep my interest. It may take me a year to read one novel but as you know that is big progress.
