BOOKS

This past week I had the pleasure of reading Stealing Hearts by Tiffany Amber Stockton. It's a great read with a lot of appeal. Below I am introducing the author and sharing about the book, along with my review. I am giving away a digital copy of this book to one of my commenters, so be sure and check out the Giveaway section below for details.

Amber Stockton. I've been crafting and embellishing stories since childhood. It seemed only natural to progress into writing down those stories and launching a career in publishing. So far, I've sold 19 books, contributed to 2 others, and have been published in a wide variety of magazines and online sites. More books are on the horizon as my agent works tirelessly to help advance my career. I couldn't do it without her!

And now for all that other stuff...

I married the love of my life in July 2007 and live in beautiful Colorado with my husband and fellow author, Stuart Vaughn Stockton, our daughter and son, and our two dogs: a retriever mix named Roxie and an Australian cattle dog named Timber.

I firmly believe a good book can take you away from your present reality into a world you've never seen. With a passion for history (and a minor from college), my books take you back to the worlds that once were and give you a slice of life amidst the adventures and faith of my characters.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Grace didn't expect him. When Grace Baxton comes face-to-face with the thief who broke into her uncle's home, she isn't prepared for meeting Andrew Bradenton-not a young boy out to cause trouble and no hardened criminal, either. The judge sentences Andrew to work for the Baxton family, and being forced to see him almost daily, Grace struggles with forgiveness.

MY REVIEW:

Great read.

Stealing Hearts is a really great read. This is the first novel I've read by this author and it definitely won't be the last.
This is a story of redemption and forgiveness. A young man who makes a bad choice has to redeem himself to the family he wronged. It has a sweet romance added in and an exciting ending...to make it a complete package of enjoyable reading. I highly recommend this book.

(THIS IS BOOK TWO IN A SERIES, BUT IT CAN BE READ AS A STAND-ALONE)

(YOU CAN PURCHASE THIS BOOK HERE.....remember, I am giving away a digital copy this week, so check out the Giveaway section below.)

MOVIES & TV

If you have ever watched the original Hawaii Five-O, this is nothing like it....in my opinion. I could never really get into the original, it was a bit too boring to me. This new version of the show is really good. It has drama, action and one of the best casts out there. For me, it's one of the best shows on television right now. It's still going and you can catch previous seasons on Netflix right now. If anyone reading this currently watches this show, don't mention any spoilers, since I am not completely caught up on all of the episodes yet.

About the show:

Steve McGarrett returns home to Oahu, in order to find his father's killer. The governor offers him the chance to run his own task force (Five-0). Steve's team is joined by Chin Ho Kelly, Danny "Danno" Williams, and Kono Kalakaua.

NEWS WORTH SHARING

Sunday marks the anniversary of the 911 attacks and I can still remember that day as if it were yesterday.
Did you ever wonder what President Bush was doing at the time of the attacks? After he was whisked away, what he and his team went through has been revealed to the public. I encourage you to go to the link below and read what Air Force One went through during this terrible time in history.

This was shared on FB and I wanted to share it with you:

Where was the president in the eight hours after the Sept. 11 attacks? The strange, harrowing journey of Air Force One, as told by the people who were on board.
"When you pick a president, you want to pick a president who can handle the unexpected. This was the unexpected." -Whitehouse chief of staff, Andy Card.

BLOGS TO SHARE

I found this blog today and it looks like a good one. The home page is so pretty and inviting and it looks like this person shares some good books....along with other things.

Christian Bookaholic

Meet Julia

I am happily married to David, and we have four grown up children…three of whom are married, and we have two gorgeous granddaughters.
I live in a small Worcestershire town in England, and share my home with my husband, youngest son and five cats.
I have always loved reading, and just want to share all the great books that I read. I am also a crazy cat lady, and cannot imagine living in a house without cats!
I also love Jesus, and love going to my large and lively church. As a Christian, I will not read and review any books that I would find offensive or that I would not be willing to have displayed at church!
I am definitely a bookaholic… I have hundreds, if not thousands if you include my kindle, of books waiting to be read. I am afraid that if I see a book I like, I tend to buy it! And if people recommend a book and it’s in a series… I buy the series!

About Christian Bookaholic:

Christian Bookaholic is a site mainly for reviews of books however if I see a great film, or listen to a fabulous CD, I will share that too. I may also share my thoughts here too.
The books reviewed will predominantly be Christian novels but I also read mass market paperbacks and the occasional non-fiction book. As a cat lover, I do sometimes dip into novels about cats.
I undertake blog tours for Litfuse in America, and will post links to their site for the books reviewed via them.
I do receive, from time to time, books from authors, publishing houses and Litfuse to read and review. Otherwise I have bought the books. All the opinions expressed will be my own; I will never intentionally give spoilers to the books.
I know that there are loads of great books out there and I think we all owe it to the authors to recommend books we love. Also, if I love a book, I want to share and pass it on.

SHIP'S GALLEY

Fall Pumpkin Sandwich Cookies

"Soft cookies, creamy filling, and sweet fall flavors make these cookies a delectable autumn treat."

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg

  • 1 cup canned pumpkin
  • Spice Filling:
  • 6 ounces softened cream cheese
  • 1/3 cup softened butter
  • 1/2 (7 ounce) jar marshmallow creme
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 3/4 cups powdered sugar

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Line two cookie sheets with Reynolds(R) Parchment Paper.
  2. Combine flour, baking powder, pumpkin pie spice, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl. In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Beat in egg and pumpkin until combined. Beat in as much of the flour mixture as you can with the mixer. Using a wooden spoon, stir in any remaining flour.
  3. Drop dough by rounded teaspoons 2 inches apart on prepared cookie sheets.
  4. Bake 12-15 minutes or until bottoms are light brown. Transfer the cookies on the parchment paper to a wire rack; cool completely.
  5. Spread the bottoms of half of the cookies with the Marshmallow-Spice Filling, using about 1 tablespoon filling on each. Top each with one of the remaining cookies, bottom side down, to make sandwich cookies.
  6. Spice Filling: Beat 6 ounces softened cream cheese and 1/3 cup softened butter in a large mixing bowl until smooth. Add one-half of a 7-ounce jar marshmallow cream, 1 teaspoon vanilla, and 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice. Beat until well combined. Gradually add 1 3/4 cups powdered sugar, beating until smooth.
