BOOKS

This past week, Chappy had the honor of reading Collision of the Heart by Laurie Alice Eakes. This is a great story based on fact....about a train wreck and the town that pulled together to help those hurt and stranded. Of course, there is a love story in it as well, with some great characters. I highly recommend this book. Check out the Giveaway section below for the chance to win my copy of this book.

About the book: (from Amazon)

Mia Roper isn’t a typical nineteenth-century woman. Refusing to pass up the hard-won opportunity to prove herself as a journalist, she left Hillsdale, Michigan, hoping in vain that Ayden Goswell would follow her to Boston.
When the train bringing her back for her first major story crashes in a snowstorm outside town, Mia is stranded. Not even the survival of a fellow passenger, a toddler, can ease her heart’s sudden ache at seeing Ayden, now a history professor at the local college, courting someone else.
Ayden’s never gotten over the fact that the most fascinating woman he ever met chose her career over marriage…and he let her go. But marrying the department director’s daughter could at least guarantee him a permanent job. It’s a satisfactory arrangement, yet his kind, pretty bride-to-be has one simple flaw: she’s not Mia.
As soon as the trains are running, Mia will be leaving again, unless she and Ayden can reconcile ambition and love—and take a leap of faith together.

My Review:
A great story

Collision of the Heart is a great story. It grabbed me from the beginning....what a way to start a story! The characters are wonderful and I can totally picture this town in my head as I read. This is a 'going home' story with a lot of heart. And with some suspense thrown in there, you have the makings of a great book. I highly recommend this and I look forward to reading more by this author.

YOU CAN PURCHASE A COPY OF THIS GREAT BOOK HERE.

Award-winning author Laurie Alice Eakes wanted to be a writer since knowing what one was. Her first book won the National Readers Choice Award in 2007, and her third book was a Carol Award finalist in 2010. Between December of 2008 and January of 2010, she sold thirteen books to Barbour Publishing, Avalon Books, and Baker/Revell, making her total sales fifteen. Recently, she added two novella sales to that collection, as well as having her first book with Baker/Revell, Lady in the Mist, picked up by Crossings Book Club, and six of her books chosen for large print editions by Thorndike Press. She has been a public speaker for as long as she can remember; thus, only suffers enough stage fright to keep her sharp. In 2002, while in graduate school for writing fiction, she began to teach fiction in person and online. She lives in Texas with her husband, two dogs, and probably too many cats.

MOVIES & TV

Cozi TV is a channel that me and the Butler have found recently. It has a lot of the old tv shows that we used to watch years ago. Here are just a few:

The Dick Van Dyke Show
The Bionic Woman
Hart to Hart
Here's Lucy
Highway to Heaven
Quantum Leap

It also has shows earlier that those, such as:

The Roy Roger's Show
The Virginian
The Lone Ranger

It is even adding Little House on the Prairie to it's line-up in September.

Friar Josef:
This character has so much faith that you can't help but feel the touch of God whenever he is mentioned in this story. He saved Lady Alexia's life, by whisking her away from the castle when he heard that her life was in danger. He is her mentor and friend....always there when she needs him for spiritual guidance, or just when she needs someone to talk to.

Sir Francis LeGode:
Someone who is supposed to be looking after the Ladies of Luxley Castle....but through deceit and an evil warlock, LeGode seeks to do away with Alexia and Cristiana, and then take over the Castle.

Here is the description of She Walks in Power again:

Alexia D'Clere didn't ask to be Protector of the Spear, but after her dying mother gave her the tiny metal object and made her promise to keep it safe, she had no choice. Orphaned at age eight, she began to take over the running of her parent's castle with the help of a trusted steward. Yet, when a plot to murder her was revealed, a friar whisked her away to live hidden in the forest. There, she learned to shoot expertly with bow and arrow and hone her skills to see into the spirit realm.

Now, at eighteen, Alexia continues to keep the Spear protected, provide meat for the starving village, while secretly caring for her ill sister who still lives in the castle. With Alexia's powers of spiritual discernment and her skill as an archer, she is no match for those who come for the spear. That is until she meets Ronar LePeine, one of the King's elite guard.

Ronar desires nothing more than to do his duty to God and King and pay penance for past sins. Yet a forest sprite with red, flaming hair blocks his every move, all the while enchanting him like no other. Something evil lurks at Castle Luxley, and both Ronar and Alexia are soon thrust into the middle of a spiritual battle which will not only test their very beliefs, but put them both in mortal danger.

This week's find:

Smiling Book Reviews

Christian book reviews with the occasional general market clean romance thrown in!

About the blog and it's author:

Hi y'all! My name is Rachel and I am a transplanted Westerner living in the South. :) I've been living in the South for about 17 years and I love it!

I love to read and have been reading since I was a girl. I can remember many a trip to the library where my sisters and I would carry home the biggest stack of books we were allowed. Alas, growing up and going to work has taken a toll on my reading time. Also with the introduction of digital media, I couldn't tell you the last time I was in a library. Which is a shame because there's something calming about rows and rows of books. :)

A couple of years ago I was introduced to GoodReads and all those challenges have reignited my interest and drive to read. I've started this blog to help me get into the market of reviewing books for publishers and other book sites. For right now it's just book reviews but I may change that in the future.

Have a blessed day! :)
